I’m Not Personally Involved In Galamsey – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that he is not personally involved in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking at a meeting with civil society organisations in Accra on Friday, October 3, the President addressed growing concerns and speculation surrounding the government’s stance on galamsey.

“We will continue to fight. I believe we will win the fight against galamsey. We have nothing to hide; I don’t gain anything from galamsey. I’m not personally involved in galamsey. I have no interest in galamsey continuing,” Mahama declared.

His remarks come amid mounting pressure from religious leaders, civil society groups, and affected communities calling for decisive action to stop the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, particularly to Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves.

At the same event, a civil society representative expressed confidence in the government’s efforts, citing Mahama’s leadership as a key factor in the progress made so far.

“We have made progress, and we are on the right path. What gives me confidence is the political will and the leadership that President Mahama is providing,” the representative said.

The president’s comments aim to reassure the public of his administration’s transparency and resolve in tackling one of the country’s most pressing environmental challenges.
