IGP Yohuno Attributes Significant Decline in Armed Robbery To Strategic Policing

IGP Yohuno Attributes Significant Decline in Armed Robbery To Strategic Policing
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh, has debunked the assertion that crime rates have increased in his tenure as the Chief of the Ghana Police Service.

In his submission, IGP Yohuno noted that there has been a drastic reduction in crime rates. especially with armed robbery cases declining from between thirty (30) to forty (40) cases a week to ten (10) cases a week.

Speaking in an interview on UTV’s Mpu Ne Mpu on Friday, July 25, 2025, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno noted that, in the past, there were so many records of robbery cases across the country; however, in the past few years, there has been a sharp decline in records of criminal activities, especially armed robbery.

Addressing the issue of cross-border crimes, IGP Yohuno stated that there has been fruitful cooperation between the Ghana Police Service and their international counterparts, citing Nigeria and Liberia, where there have been efforts to clamp down on individuals who had committed crimes and have been on the run.

He confirmed the case of the hardened criminal, Lone Ranger, a Togolese national, who was arrested in Togo and repatriated to Ghana to face the law for committing many atrocities in the country. He further commended the diplomacy exhibited between the Togolese officials and the Ghanaian counterparts for helping reduce the rate of crime in the country with the arrest of Lone Ranger.

He also disclosed that the two Ghanaian who were kidnapped and sent to Nigeria were rescued with the help of the IGP of Nigeria and the team from Ghana.

“Crime has gone down. Over the years, crime has come down to 10 in a week, specifically armed robbery cases, which earlier weren’t so. In the past few years, it has been 30 to 40 robbery cases in a week. As I am talking about now, it has gone down to 10.

We’re working hard at this. It is not by mere wishful thinking leading to a reduction in the crime rate. It has been the collective efforts by all commanders and the advice and intelligence given by the Police Management Board (PoMaB) to the various regional commanders that everyone must work hard to prevent crime.
