The Agbotui and allied families of former President Jerry John Rawlings has urged the public to disregard reports indicating the funeral date of the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings.
In a statement signed by the secretary of the Agbotui and Allied families Mr. Napoleon Kwame Agbotui, it read, ”The Agbotui and allied families, home and abroad have noticed in circulation on social media, a press release supposedly coming from the office of the former President Jerry John Rawlings; that the family in consultation with the government agreed that the date for the state funeral of the former President is confirmed for Wednesday, 23 December, 2020.”
According to the statement sighted by Plan B FM, it indicated that no consultation between the families, the government has taken place, and as such, the previous statement stating the date of the funeral must be disregarded.
It continued that the family and the Chiefs of Anlo state are yet to schedule a date for the final funeral rites of the former statesman.
“Information to the new date and details of the funeral arrangements of the late President will be conveyed after a thorough and broad consultation with the Families, the government, and The Anlo State to give him a befitting burial,” the statement said.
Concluding the statement, the family appealed to the office of the President to ensure that the customs of Anlo and the right procedures are duly respected during the burial of Rawlings.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings died on Thursday November 12, 2020 at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital at age 73.
