“Ignore any new fares – They are not approved” – GPRTU warns passengers

Driver Unions Suspend Intended Strike

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has strongly dismissed claims of a transport fare increase, urging passengers not to pay any new fares imposed by transport operators.

This comes after VIP JEOUN Transport and the Alliance of Drivers Ghana announced an upward adjustment in fares, effective today, March 17, 2025.

Speaking on Lawson TV, GPRTU’s Industrial Relations Manager, Abass Imoro, condemned the move, stating that transport owners cannot arbitrarily increase fares without approval.

“If you are a driver and you can’t follow the directive, you can park your car and wait for an officially sanctioned fare adjustment,” he fumed.

He further called on the Transport Ministry to intervene, stressing that unauthorized fare hikes are becoming too frequent.
