If CCTV Won’t Capture This Reckless V8 Driver Our Cameras Will; Dampare Must Take Up This Case

If CCTV Won’t Capture This Reckless V8 Driver Our Cameras Will; Dampare Must Take Up This Case
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Despite several warnings by the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare against road indiscipline, some recalcitrant drivers continue to flout the road safety regulations. Today at the GIMPA road in West Legon, this Toyota V8 driver wrongfully overtook a long queue of vehicles.

The vehicle with registration number GT 6583 21 held on to its horns to alert vehicles in-bound to give way. That was a breach of the regulation, and it appears the absence of the CCTV cameras on that stretch motivated the driver to be that indiscipline.

But he surely wouldn’t escape the sanctions of this offence, as IGP Dr Dampare has trusted the citizenry to be vigilant and report any lawbreaker to the Police. By this medium, the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will be alerted on the nuisance this reckless driver is causing on our roads

In this Christmas season, traffic builds up at very early hours and such drivers for their deviance are tempted to speed off the shoulders of the road or wrongfully overtake other vehicles to avoid the long queues. Though the MTTD is monitoring through their cameras to arrest and penalize such drivers, several road networks are yet to be covered by security cameras, and patrol units of the Police.

This is the time; the responsible Ghanaian must act to support the Police fight crime and correct the indiscipline on our roads. Just as this driver did not escape the lenses of the author, all others might be secretly recorded should they engage in such deviance.

The truth is that none of these reckless V8 drivers will ever know they are being recorded for their lawlessness until they are notified of being wanted by the Police for the offence of road traffic indiscipline. We must abide by the rules of the nation lest Dr Dampare and the justice system will surely crack the whip on our backs.
