If Care Is Not Taken, Ghana Could Face a Coup” – Wontumi Speaks Out After National Security Operatives Raid His Home

If you fail to campaign for Bawumia, we ‘Il come after you-Wontumi to NPP appointees

Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has broken his silence after national security operatives stormed his residence in a tense and dramatic standoff today.

According to Wontumi who was speaking in an interview, the security forces struggled for 30 minutes attempting to forcibly enter his home at Paraku Estate in Kumasi, but he stood his ground and refused to bow to their pressure. “They tried to drag me, but I didn’t give in,” he said.

Wontumi questioned the timing and justification of the raid, pointing out that the police have already issued a warrant for his appearance, which he has agreed to honor on Monday, May 26th, 2025.

“Why the sudden escalation when I’m not even a minister or on board with the NPP government?” he asked.

The situation escalated when he called his supporters, who started gathering around his residence.

This prompted the operatives to temporarily retreat, only to return heavily armed with about 100 military and police personnel, carrying guns, axes, sticks, and other weapons. Wontumi even unleashed his dogs to defend the premises.

In a startling revelation, Wontumi said the operatives used a drone in the operation.

“The drone flew and accidentally crashed inside my house, and they begged me to return it,” he revealed.

Expressing deep concern about the political climate, Wontumi warned: “If care is not taken, what Mahama is doing could lead to a coup in Ghana. He fears losing control after handing the country over to his allies.”

He also disclosed that the security forces planned to take him to Tamale if arrested.

“They brought five vehicles and claimed the investigation was about my Akonta Mining business. But my sources say if they got inside, they intended to plant drugs or gold to frame me,” he added.

Despite these developments, Wontumi stressed that he respects court orders and will appear on May 26 to cooperate fully with investigations. “I am not someone who dishonors court orders,” he said firmly.

He also lamented the freezing of his bank accounts without prior notice.

“This is too personal, Mr. Mahama. You did this in 2013 and collapsed my businesses. You won the election in 2024, and now in 2025, you’re doing it again. What have I done to deserve this?” he asked.

Calling on Ghanaians and the international community, Wontumi urged vigilance.

“The country is headed for dangerous waters. They are targeting me because I want to be National Chairman of the NPP,” he concluded.
