Eric Amoako and Kwesi Pratt yesterday, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 joined Randy Abbey on the Good Morning show. Eric Amoako is the former NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Fantekwa South constituency. He happens to partner Kwesi Pratt on the Wednesday session of the programme. Randy engaged them about the Auditor General’s report on the loss of millions of cedis from 2020.
Kwesi Pratt bemoaned why this should be happening when the President had promised to protect the national purse. He questioned the ministers at the ministries where monies got missing. This position was supported by Randy who cited examples that party politics has turned out to be a winner takes all and this results in incompetent people being put in underserving positions.
Randy observed that the system is so corrupt the import duties are more than the price of the vehicles themselves. He lamented that when owners fail to clear their vehicles, those same vehicles are auctioned and sold at lesser rates to government officials. Randy asserted that the problem was that there was no one to crack the whip on those stealing. This position was countered by Eric Amoako who had been listening for a while.
Eric noted that he this assertion was true but this did not mean that everyone was corrupt. According to him it is only a few who are going overboard. Interestingly, Eric admitted that if even majority are involved in misappropriation, mismanagement or embezzlement, he will never stoop so low to do that. Eric couldn’t directly blame those involved in those practices but admitted that he will never do such a thing because he came to serve and not to grab properties.
The question still remains as to whether the Auditor General or Special Prosecutor will have the balls to go after those who have stolen from the country’s efforts. President Akufo-Addo has applauded the Auditor General, but will he give him the needed the support to finish his work or the plaudits was just a sham to cover things up?
