‘I will Never Trust Appiah-Kubi, I have Blocked His Number’ – Gary Nimako

Andy Appiah-Kubi quits politics after loss to independent candidate

The Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party, Gary Nimako, has lambasted Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the lawyer of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on Monday, June 7, 2025, Gary Nimako accused Appiah-Kubi of telling lies about not knowing of a bail variation application he filed for the court to reduce the GH¢50 million bail set by EOCO for Wontumi’s release.

He added that Appiah-Kubi’s assertion that Wontumi was not granted bail on Friday, May 30, 2025, because of the variation application he (Nimako) filed was totally wrong.

“A variation application is not an injunction application that could have stopped the ongoing process. It was a plea to the court to reduce the bail amount because it was too much, so we could meet the condition of release. So, if by God’s grace someone was able to meet the conditions, why don’t we sign and just go?

“The bail condition was GH¢50 million with two sureties to be justified. If you met it, why didn’t you go ahead to sign it? At 8 pm, were the documents sent to the Lands Commission, and who at the Lands Commission was working at 8 pm? Let’s ask questions for Andy Appiah-Kubi to come and answer. He cannot throw it in the air, that the process has been frustrated because someone has filed a variation – the process has stopped. That is disingenuous,” he said in the Twi dialect.

He added; “How do you do this? It is not right, it is not fair. I had spoken to you (Appiah-Kubi) and discussed this with you before filing (the bail variation application). And you came out to say you don’t know anything about this… I have blocked his number.”
