New Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton insists that while he can’t guarantee that the Black Stars will win trophies in his tenure, he will put the right structures in place to ensure that the team is equipped to be successful.
Speaking at his unveiling in Kumasi on Monday, Hughton stated that it would be impossible for any manager to guarantee trophies.
He, however, added that he and his team are committed to giving the national team the best chance to be successful by setting up the team correctly for matches.
“There’s not one coach, head coach or manager that will sit up here and guarantee trophies, not one because we cannot guarantee anything,” he said.
“What we can guarantee is we’ll work as hard as we can to put a team together to create the right tactics and the right mentality to put ourselves in the right position to do that.”
The Black Stars take on Angola in a doubleheader for the AFCON 23 Qualifiers.
Hughton said he was focused on leading the team to the next AFCON but whether they would win it was still up in the air.
”The first thing is qualification. We will work as hard as we can but I think you can appreciate that there isn’t anybody that can guarantee anything because there are certain things that always change things.”
Despite a few close shaves, the Black Stars have been trophyless since their AFCON success in 1982.
Consistently boasting some of the best names in football across the globe and certainly on the continent, the Black Stars lack of trophies is surprising, and one thing fans are desperate to see end.
