An Ambulance belonging to the Kpassa branch of the Nkwanta North District of the Oti Region, with the registration number GV- 657- 20, has been attacked by suspected armed robbers while returning from Tamale.
The incident occurred at about 0300 hours on Monday, March 2, at Linjikpi, when the ambulance was on its way back to Kpassa after reportedly undertaking an official assignment at Tamale.
The officers on board said they were ambushed by armed men along the road, who opened fire on the vehicle creating fear and panic among them, but managed to escape without any casualties.
Mr Gyan Beecham, the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) of the Nkwanta North District Ambulance service, confirming the news to the Ghana News Agency, said fortunately, the officers on board did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
He raised concerns about security on major highways, especially for essential service providers such as the ambulance services, which operated at all hours to save lives.
Mr Gyan, however, called on the security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure the safety of health workers and emergency response teams, who risked their lives daily to serve the public.
