Speaking to the news outlet, police spokesperson Sergeant Jason McClimans said that flight schools operated both aircraft.
While the plane landed safely at Chandler Airport despite having a damaged landing gear, the helicopter caught fire after the collision.
According to the Chandler Fire Department, they received reports of a fire next to the airport, and the crew found the helicopter’s wreckage on fire.
The fire was extinguished quickly, and upon close inspection, they recovered two bodies.
No one on the ground was hurt in the accident, but the airport was closed for several hours.

Police investigating the crash are looking for any witnesses or people who may have filmed the ordeal.
The National Transportation Safety Board said they are investigating the accident while identifying the helicopter as a Robinson R22 and a Piper PA28-181 aeroplane.
