Heavy Rain Floods Kumasi Airport Roundabout

Rainstorms Expected Today In Greater Accra, Volta, Western And Northern Regions – GMet
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A heavy rainfall that happened on Saturday, May 16, 2025, left the Kumasi Airport Roundabout badly flooded. The downpour, which lasted for several hours, caused serious flooding in the area and affected many homes, businesses, and roads.

By Sunday morning, May 17, 2025, the situation had not improved. The floodwater was still present in many parts of the roundabout, creating massive traffic problems for drivers and commuters. Many vehicles moved slowly or got stuck in the water, making it difficult for people to get to their destinations on time.

The flood did not only affect the roads. Several houses close to the roundabout were also affected. Water entered living rooms, bedrooms, and shops, destroying furniture, electrical appliances, clothes, food items, and other personal belongings. Some families had to sleep in wet conditions or move out of their homes for safety.

People in the affected areas are calling on authorities for help. They want the government, city officials, and disaster management teams to visit the scene and offer assistance. Many residents believe that poor drainage systems and lack of proper maintenance around the Kumasi Airport Roundabout made the situation worse. They say this is not the first time the place has been flooded after heavy rain.

The flooding has also raised concerns about how ready Kumasi is for the rainy season. As the rains continue, there are fears that other parts of the city may also be affected if proper measures are not taken.

Residents are urging city officials to take quick steps to improve the drainage system, remove garbage from gutters, and educate people on how to prevent future flooding. They are also hoping for support to rebuild their lives after this weekend’s destruction.
