The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for nurses and other allied health professionals recently recruited and posted to various districts to report to their assigned places of work.
In a statement dated August 24, 2026, the Ministry said the new deadline is August 31, 2026, describing the extension as the final notice to all affected professionals.
The Ministry explained that the affected professionals are those who have applied, gone through the required interviews and screening, and have been assigned to health facilities. Some have already reported for duty and commenced the processes for mechanisation, with some professionals already receiving their salaries.
The Ministry also clarified the recruitment, posting and salary payment process, following what it described as misleading information circulating on the matter.
According to the Ministry, the process begins with the receipt of financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, after which the recruitment portal is opened for eligible applicants. Applicants then apply for postings to their preferred districts and undergo interviews in their respective districts.
Successful applicants accept their postings, report to their assigned facilities, and have their assumption of duty confirmed. The necessary documentation is subsequently submitted to the Ghana Health Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana and other relevant agencies, where applicable.
An appointment letter is then generated to enable the applicant to complete the processes required for salary input. Once the salary input process is completed, the worker’s salary is validated by the facility and paid by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.
The Ministry stressed that every recruited professional must go through the established process before salary payment can be effected, saying this is necessary to ensure that the right people are paid and to prevent payments for work not done or the creation of ghost names.
Human Resource Directors and other relevant officers have consequently been directed to expedite the necessary processes to ensure that eligible professionals who have reported for duty are promptly captured and processed for salary payment.
The Ministry further directed Directors and Managers to use the September data entry window to mechanise all professionals who have assumed duty.
However, professionals who fail to report by the August 31 deadline without an approved and justifiable reason will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system. They will instead be considered through a mop-up exercise scheduled for the first week of September.
The Ministry has therefore urged all affected nurses and allied health professionals to take advantage of the final extension and report to their assigned facilities within the stipulated period.
