The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged gun attack on the residence of former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu, James Kofi Annan.

The incident is reported to have occurred around 2 am on December 29, 2025, at his residence in Kasoa.

A statement issued by Challenging Heights, a non-governmental organisation founded by Mr Annan, revealed that “at approximately 2:00 AM on Monday, 29th December 2025, a suspected targeted gun attack occurred at Mr. Annan’s residence.

During the incident, a projectile discharged by an unidentified assailant penetrated the ceiling of the building, narrowly missing a primary living area.”

The NGO further added that Mr.  Annan is cooperating fully with the authorities and is concurrently implementing enhanced security protocols for himself, his family, and his staff.

Crime investigators from the Kasoa Divisional Police Command and others from the Central East Regional Command have since visited the residence and began investigations into the incident.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

INVESTIGATION INTO ATTACK AT THE RESIDENCE OF THE PRESIDENT OF CHALLENGING HEIGHTS, JAMES KOFI ANNAN

The Management of Challenging Heights wishes to inform the public of a serious security incident involving our Founder, James Kofi Annan.

At approximately 2:00 AM on Monday, 29th December 2025, a suspected targeted gun attack occurred at Mr. Annan’s residence. During the incident, a projectile discharged by an unidentified assailant penetrated the ceiling of the building, narrowly missing a primary living area.

We wish to formally assure all partners, supporters, and the general public that James Kofi Annan and all members of his household are safe and unharmed.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Kasoa Division, alongside the Regional Crime Scene Team, have conducted an initial forensic assessment and have officially taken over the investigation.

Mr. Annan is cooperating fully with the authorities and is concurrently implementing enhanced security protocols for himself, his family, and his staff.

We wish to express our profound gratitude to the Kasoa Divisional Police Commander and the Regional Crime Scene Team for their rapid response and professionalism. We also thank the many individuals who have reached out to express their concern and solidarity.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. We urge all well wishers to remain calm and allow the Ghana Police Service to conduct their work.
