GRIDCo, ECG announce shutdown of some thermal power plants in Tema

ECG Shuts Down Somanya Office Over Safety Concerns

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have jointly informed the general public that due to a temporary shutdown of the West Afica Gas Pipeline Compnay Limited (WAPCo’s) Tema Regulatory & Metering Station, some thermal power plants in Tema have had to be shutdown.

A joint statement issued on Thursday, December 12 said that the shutdown has caused a shortfall in power supply, requiring some limited load management in some parts of the country.

According to a statement issued by WAPCo, the temporary shutdown of its Tema Regulatory & Metering Station was necessitated by some operational upsets when some larger-than-expected liquids and debris were received at its Lagos Beach Compressor Station.

GRIDCo and ECG say they are optimistic that WAPCo will soon resolve the challenge, and restore gas supply.

“Once gas supply resumes, power supply will be restored to all affected customers. GRIDCo and ECG wish to apologise to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” the  joint statement said.
