Great Olympics gutted after being labelled ‘disrespectful’ by Gbese Mantse

Great Olympics gutted after being labelled ‘disrespectful’ by Gbese Mantse

Accra Great Olympics have responded to comments by the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, who declared  that the former will never compete in the Homowo Cup after failing to honour an invitation.

During a pre-match briefing for this year’s Homowo Charity Cup match between Hearts and Heart of Lions, the Gbese Mantse expressed his displeasure with Great Olympics’ decision to withdraw from last year’s competition.

However, in a statement, Great Olympics asserted that the Gbese Mantse’s words had brought the club’s image into disrepute.

“We have taken notice of the Gbese Mantse labelling our dear club as being disrespectful towards him by not honouring a match under his auspices.

“The Gbese Stool traditionally has been a patron of our club, and therefore disrespect towards the stool and its occupants has never occurred to us,” the statement said.

Great Olympics further explained that they withdrew from last year’s competition due to violations of the agreement, including changes that were not properly informed.

“As occupant of the Gbese stool, it is within his right not to invite Olympics to any match under his auspices. But we are consoled by the fact that his decision is not binding on other Ga Parouncies and Ga Traditional Council,” the statement said.

Great Olympics also stated that they are willing to partake in any match so long as the conditions precedent by parties involved are duly met.
