Asante Kotoko were stunned by bottom side Legon Cities as the Porcupine Warriors suffered a 2-1 loss at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday night.
Legon Cities were determined to put things right after a disappointing start to the season, losing five and drawing two prior to their meeting with Kotoko.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko were in search of a win to move level on points with Bibiani Gold Stars at the summit of the league.
But it was the host who struck first after 23 minutes when Albert Yeboah put them ahead against the run of play, taking a surprise lead at the interval.
However, after the break, Kumasi Asante Kotoko grew into the game, creating opportunities but failing to find the back of the net.
Goal-scoring has been the achilles heels of Kotoko and so it proved to be as the visitors looked for a way back into the game.
On the 76th minute, Kotoko’s Albert Amoah ensured parity for his side as he tucked home a penalty to bag his fifth goal of the season.
The game looked destined to end in a draw until Legon Cities’ Rahim Abdul scored a late goal to ensure the hosts bagged their first three points of the season, while the visitors suffered their first league defeat of the season.
