Hearts of Oak’s dream to defend the Ghana Premier League title has suffered a further blow following the team’s 1-1 draw against Legon Cities FC in the Ghana Premier League.
The team that finished last season as champions of the Ghanaian top-flight league has struggled to compete this season.
Through the first round of the campaign, the team lost a lot of points and hence failed to contend even as a top-four side.
Today, Hearts of Oak commenced the second round of the Ghana Premier League season with a clash against Legon Cities FC.
In a game played at the El-Wak Stadium, the Phobians led at halftime courtesy of a header from Isaac Mensah who jumped highest to connect to a well-taken corner kick from veteran midfielder Sulley Muntari.
Despite dominating the game, Hearts of Oak failed to capitalise on the many chances created. As a result, a late strike from Osman Amadu denied the defending champions the maximum points at full-time.
The draw leaves Hearts of Oak 7th on the Ghana Premier League table and 11 points league leader Asante Kotoko.
