Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare believes the Ghana Premier League title race is still wide open following their crucial victory over rivals Asante Kotoko in the latest Super Clash.
The Phobians edged their sworn rivals 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium, courtesy of a first-half header from Baba Adamu, a result that significantly strengthens their push at the top end of the table. The narrow but vital win trims the points gap on leaders Medeama SC and injects fresh belief into the Rainbow camp.
Asare, speaking after the match, insisted the title race remains fiercely competitive, pointing to the slim margins separating the top sides. According to the shot-stopper, consistency and determination will ultimately decide who lifts the trophy at the end of the campaign.
He stressed that if Hearts maintain their winning run, they will put themselves in a strong position to capitalise on any slip-ups above them. The goalkeeper also described the prospect of winning the league as a deserved reward for the squad’s hard work, adding that the derby victory should sharpen their focus in the weeks ahead.
The result moves Hearts of Oak into third place on 39 points, setting up an important Matchday 23 fixture against Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium, where they will aim to keep the pressure firmly on the frontrunners.
