Political Analyst, Samuel Boateng has criticized governments for what he describes as too much talk and little action in fighting corruption in the country.
His comments come after former President John Dramani Mahama at a Professionals Forum at the Cedi Conference Centre of the University of Ghana on Monday, September 6, 2021 said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not willing to fight corruption within his government.
According to him, the failure by President Akufo-Addo to fight corruption in his government will affect his ability to “guarantee citizens an appreciable standard of living”.
“This level of leakage will definitely affect the ability of any government to deliver on its mandate and guarantee citizens an appreciable standard of living.”
“The nonchalance and total unwillingness to address corruption in government is a major worry and will continue to affect our economic fortunes until the trend stops.”
But speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, Mr. Boateng says current and previous governments have paid lip service to dealing with corruption and has done nothing about punishing persons found in their administration found culpable of corrupt practices.
“Governments have not done enough to stem corruption but rather paying lip service with the fight against corruption. Corruption steals significant funds from us in Ghana, so they should not just be talking, but rather be doing things that tell everyone they frown on corruption and this is what they are doing as a government so the citizens will do their part” he intimated.
He said nothing has happened in fighting corruption although there are some people who have been indicted in the latest Auditor General’s report who are supposed to be sent to court but nothing has been done.
According to the political Analyst, corruption has been a trend with all Presidents and have tried to shield their own when it comes to the issue of corruption and don’t do enough to fight it.
