Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education has told a media briefing in Accra that Government is working hard to eliminate the double track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) all over the country.

The Education Minister made this known during a media briefing in Accra at the Ministry of Information today, Sunday, June 6, 2021. It was under the theme; President Akufo-Addo’s Educational Agenda: Four Years And Beyond.

In an answer to a question posed by a media person at the press briefing, who sought to know how long it would take the Government to end the double track system in the country, Dr. Adutwum opined that Government should be able to achieve that between two to three years.

Explaining the reason for mentioning the aforementioned period, the Education Minister noted that Government as part of effort aimed at ending the double track system, is massively expanding infrastructure in schools across the country adding that the rate at which the expansion of the infrastructure is taking place, it should be something Government should be able to do barring any hitch.

Continuing, he pointed out that because the Akufo-Addo led-government is bent on ending the double track system very soon, there a lot of infrastructure expansion currently taking place at all levels of education in the country.

Concluding he remarked that the Government is repositioning the whole of the education system which will seek to produce a critical mass of assertive and empowered Ghanaian population who will have relevant skills for socioeconomic transformation of the country; something he described as very important.

On what the next plan of the Government for the education sector is, the Minister stated that it to consolidate the progress whilst investing in improving human capital with special focus on STEM Education, National Standardized Test, Learning Grant and JHS Transformation.

He mentioned the rest as Inclusive Education – GATE, TVET Transformation, Teachers/Administrators Training and Increased Enrolment at the Tertiary Level.
