Dr Rainer Akumperigya, a Law Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has revealed that government of Ghana has conducted several coups without knowing.
According to him, Coup shouldn’t be perceived to be the removal of the President and his cabinet ministers from office only. He explained that “a Coup is the suspension of constitutional rule together with some or all its architecture. The President and his cabinet ministers are essential part of the constitutional architecture and so the removal of the President is only an incident and not the Coup itself.
He stated that if Ghanaians understand Coup in this way then they will get to know that the NPP government has conducted a lot of Coups against itself in a manner which has brought the constitutional rule in disrepute not once but countless times.
He made this statement when speaking about how Oliver Barker-Vormawor was treated fro just saying he will conduct a Coup if government accepts E-levy.
