The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a commercial fire outbreak that affected four shops near the Bolgatanga Main Station in the Upper East Region.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of Monday, July 20, 2026, involved three boutique shops and a building materials shop located opposite the Area Council.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received from one Mr. Nsoh at 6:03 pm, prompting a six-member firefighting team from the Upper East Regional Headquarters, led by STNO I Bright Atimbiok, to respond.
The team arrived at the scene at 6:07 pm and found the shops fully engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, a reinforcement crew operating Zebra Four was deployed to assist with the firefighting operation.
Through a coordinated effort by both teams, the blaze was brought under control at 6:40 pm and completely extinguished at 7:45 pm, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.
The firefighters returned safely to their base at 8:24 pm.
The GNFS confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded, although property damage has been estimated at GH¢165,000.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
The Service has renewed its appeal to the public to ensure proper maintenance of electrical installations, avoid unsafe electrical connections, and promptly report fire outbreaks to enable swift response and minimise damage.
