Ghana Muslim Students’ Association (GMSA) has served a notice to the Ghana Education Service over the resumption date of Senior High Schools.
In a Statement sighted by Plan B News and signed by Alhassan Iddrisu Abdulai, GMSA made it clear that the current resumption date for senior high schools will not be feasible for some students.
According to GMSA, all Muslims are in their Ramadan period(season of fasting). As a result, Muslim students will find it difficult to be in school on 17th April, 2033. GMSA is therefore urging the Ghana Education Service to reschedule the date from 17th April, 2023 to Monday, 24th April, 2023.
“It will be recalled that students went on break on the 6th of April, 2023 and are expected per schedule to return on the 17h of April, 2023. Knowing this year’s Eid-ul fitr celebration will come only 3 or 4 days after the resumption, we petition that the reopening date be postponed to Monday, 24th April, 2023 by management of the GES acting in consonance with relevant parties as the circumstances may demand. Considering the fact that Eid is an important religious ritual, we believe this will offer Muslim students the opportunity to observe it with their families and reduce the tendency of truancy among students during this sácred period of Ramadan and ftr. We are counting highly on your usual cooperation. Thank you“
