Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Percival Kofi Akpalo is calling for an overhaul of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
According to him, the world has evolved thereby making the 1992 constitution lose its relevance.
“We need to throw away the constitution; we need a total overhaul of our constitution, the District and Assembly men should be voted under a political line. The way we appoint people to occupy our security services, especially the Inspector General of Police is not the best, it compromises our security system. The unemployment crisis we find ourselves in is as a result of this archaic constitution,” he said on Plan B FM ‘Ebaanosen’ with Bohyeba Afriyie
Mr. Akpalo further made a specific call for the abolition of the indemnity clause which insulated individuals and persons affiliated to previous military regimes from prosecution.
Section 34 of the transitional provisions of the 1992 Constitution indemnifies all coup makers and their functionaries against any liability for acts and omissions committed during their administration.
