Medical Practitioner, Dr. Kwesi Koranteng has urged Ghanaians to desist from activities that causes burns.

According to him, Ghanaians should be more interested in how to prevent than how to manage burns when it has already happened.

He described burns as a health condition that is mostly caused by heat coming from fire and he listed Electrical burns, chemical burns, radiation burns as types of burns.

He also indicated that there are four levels of burns, first, second, third and fourth burns degrees which he finalized that the higher the the number the more severe it is.

“Some doctors have also classified it as superficial and deep burns. Hospitals in Ghana record a lot of burn cases and mostly this cases are children, the ratio between the male and female is literally the same” he told Nana Konadu Okontie on Plan B FM ‘Apomuden Fie’

“When ever there’s the burns type of accident you should make it a point to rush the person to the hospital, after a rescue, it is the duty of the doctor to tell whether it’s severe or not any level of delay might cause extra harm. It comes with quite a number of complications, burns that is not treated rightful can cause a lot of infections, also causes Anaemia etc there’s also late complications which are mostly scars” he stated

“The circumferential burns is more dangerous this is because there’s a build up of fluid and needs emergency treatment.”

He also said that healing depends on the degree of the burns and the victims immune system.

He indicated that In very serious cases it might even affect your kidney hence a lot of medications are given to the victim to prevent all of that ,also they are given antibiotics to prevent infections and painkillers to help decrease the pains.

He stated that All scars have their way of management and silicon gel can help manage scars and After discharged from the hospital you have eat healthy food, always attend your review appointment. And also how to prevent burns substitute the use of candle with torch light, gas users must be very careful. He concluded that all that type of burns must be taken seriously and must be treated with all the seriousness it deserves.
