Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) says it will resume spillage at the Weija Dam from Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as the water level at the dam continues to rise following heavy rains.
In a press release issued on Monday, September 7, GWL said the water level has reached 45.2 feet, following heavy rainfall upstream and continued rains within the catchment area of the Densu River and its tributaries.
The company says the level is approaching the 46-foot threshold, prompting the decision to resume spillage as a precautionary measure to safeguard the dam.
GWL has consequently urged residents living downstream of the Weija Dam to evacuate the area and remain alert to official evacuation directives.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), District Assemblies, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, resident associations and other relevant stakeholders have also been asked to take precautionary measures and prepare for possible evacuation.
Communities likely to be affected include Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach and Ada Kopey, among others.
Ghana Water Ltd says it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates, stressing that the safety of residents remains its priority.
