Ghana University Sports Association Receives Share Of COVID-19 Relief Fund From GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has presented a cheque of Seven Thousand dollars ($7,000) to the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), as their share of the FIFA/CAF COVID-19 relief fund.

It will be recalled that the GFA in June 2020, allotted the amount for GUSA as their share of the fund to alleviate some of their hardships in the period of the Corona Virus pandemic.

The presentation was done on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 by General Secretary of the GFA Prosper Harrison Addo with support from Deputy General Secretary and head of the National teams department Alex Asante and Director of Communications Henry Asante Twum.

The cheque was received by Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, co-opted member of GUSA. Other members at the brief ceremony were Asante Forkuo, Public Relations Officer and Ali Ibrahim, treasurer of GUSA.

“I said wow, these people are really walking the talk, because if you are operating with a partner and the partner leads by what they promised or what is arranged. This was what I felt when I first got the call and said that $7,000 is there for you to pick. Dr. Bello said.

“Our strategy of the new GUSA is really working because we plan to improve on our past and so we try to do things accordingly and more effectively and so we decided to come as a delegation to the GFA and out of these visits is what we are now seeing the fruits.

“Also, I thought it is actually good to spend the capital that you have. I personally have a good relationship with the GFA and we have been having discussions and decided to peach the ideas and follow up. These were our reactions and I said this is a great relief for GUSA, an achievement I don’t think has ever happened that about 8 months to time for competition, we are already sorted with the registration fees.

“It is an exciting thing to see and one more good story in this COVID-19 season relating to sports.

“It will go very far to help us a lot. This is because, you have a registration fee for participation and this money will help pay for the fee to secure your participation. So now we can go and sleep knowing we have the money to register and our participation is assured.

“We can tackle other issues but registration has been sorted and secured. The money has greatly helped us. These are not easy and normal times in our sports history and so if you get such support and sponsorship, we have gone very far and it is a great news to talk about and discuss.

“I think the GFA has done very well and these are the kind of things we will want to see and experience. And I am not talking about giving money but effective partnership making it sustainable and to support each other”. Dr. Bello Bitugu added.
