James Edem Tamakloe, NPP Communicator for Tema West, has expressed doubts about the viability of the government’s 24-hour economy policy, warning that it could fail if key structural challenges are not addressed.
Speaking on Nkososem, a morning programme on Plan B FM, Mr. Tamakloe argued that despite the passage of the 24-hour economy bill under President John Dramani Mahama, the country lacks the necessary infrastructure to sustain round-the-clock economic activity.
According to him, persistent issues such as unemployment, unreliable electricity supply, water shortages, and transportation challenges raise serious concerns about implementation. He warned that if these gaps are not resolved, the policy risks becoming what he described as “an embarrassment to the international community.”
Mr. Tamakloe called for a comprehensive approach to job creation, a stable power and water supply, and improved public transport before fully rolling out the initiative, stressing that policy success depends on practical readiness rather than legislation alone.
