Richster Nii Amarh Amarfio, Secretary of the Ghana Tuna Association, has indicated that, the Ghana fishing industry lacks locally trained crew members on vessels meant for fishing.

According to Mr. Amarfio, all crew members of vessels in the country that go on sea are mostly from Korea because the local fishing industries lacks such members.

Speaking on PLAN B FM, s Show dubbed Ebaanosen, he indicated that the reason for this is as a result of the lack of training institutions in the country that can train people in the sector of fishing.

“One might say we have training institutions in the country, but the truth is, they are not certified and recognised in the international level”, he said.

Mr. Amarfio observed that, the issue of the lack of crew members in the industry have been a major problem which is affecting the fishing industry.

According to him, the association have made this known to the president, and its outfit is of good faith that the President will solve the issue of lack of certified training institutions to train local crew members in a vessel.

“If the country is able to produce such people in the field of fishing, then the fishing industry is going to see massive engagement and improvement in the area of crew members”, he explained further.
