She wrote ‘I witness the last 10mins of a man’s life …….at the arrival hall at Kotoka. No first aid kit, no defibrillator no oxygen no aid …..no medic personal. the man was uneasy and a friend helped him to sit and within 10mins just like that he rolled his eyes and dropped dead. We kept yelling for help, medical assistance something and a nurse showed with a medical bag filled with paracetamol and plaster. My heart is broken. Could he have been saved …..possibly if there was proper first aid. We have the most expensive cars and houses in Ghana and no first aid kit to save a life? May his soul Rest In Peace. I pray Ghana Civil Aviation fix the problem. Life is so fragile ohhhhh’
Management of the airport in a statement confirmed the death of the passenger. Part of the statement reads ‘the passenger was reported to have complained of tiredness and had difficulty in breathing. He was subsequently offered wheelchair by the ground Handler. The passenger became unconscious at the arrival hall and received medical attention but was unresponsive. He was conveyed to the Airport clinic for further attention and subsequently passed on’.
Following the statement by management of the Airport, Emelia Van Eck has this to say;
And the lie, there was no wheelchair ……he was assisted to a bench by his colleague and one of the aviation staff at the arrival hall by the diplomat immigration booth ……he walked to the bench not in a wheelchair.
5-10mins his eyes rolled and that is when we helped him to the floor and started screaming for help. 2 passengers assisted with CPR no medical personal was present. He died at the airport. The first medical assistant came after 15 mins with a small bag containing band aid …..she had no clue what to do infact she left the scene as passengers were attending to the man. No oxygen no defibrillators nothing. The man died at the airport before the ambulance picked him up. Instead of the liars it should serve as a teachable lesson and train airport staff and equip them with aid for emergencies. I wish I could reach out to authorities and help them effect a change, she wrote.
