Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, marking the start of their campaign at the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament.

The tournament involving the top four Premier League clubs from last season commenced today and will come to an end on Sunday, August 24.

The first match between Asante Kotoko and Gold Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium produced a thrilling contest, providing entertainment for the supporters who trooped to the Stadium to cheer on their teams.

In a game that saw three goals, it was Asante Kotoko that equalised first, finding the back of the net through a strike from attacker Albert Amoah in the 16th minute.

Despite conceding first, Gold Stars remained calm and stuck to their game plan. In the 22nd minute, the team was awarded a penalty kick to the frustration of the Kotoko players, who protested the referee’s decision.

With the decision standing, Samuel Atta Kumi converted from 12 yards to restore parity to the game.

A tough contest ensued from there, but it was an own goal by Kotoko defender Henry Ansu in the second half that handed Gold Stars a 2-1 win at full-time.

In the second match of the day, Hearts of Oak will face off with Heart of Lions at 6 pm today at the University of Ghana Stadium.
