GFA charges Elmina Sharks’ Jay Asamoah Kola for assaulting match official

GFA charges Elmina Sharks’ Jay Asamoah Kola for assaulting match official
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Elmina Sharks player Jay Asamoah Kola has been charged with breaching Section 12(1)(k) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Code, 2019, following an incident in the matchday 17 Access Bank Division One League clash between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks.

A viral video of the incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with Kola accused of physically assaulting a match official during the game.

The charge comes at a time when Ghanaian football is under scrutiny following the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley in Nsoatre, an incident that led to the temporary suspension of the Ghana Premier League and the introduction of stricter matchday security protocols.

The GFA has given Kola until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to respond to the charges. If found guilty, he could face severe disciplinary action, including suspension and fines, as the football governing body moves to clamp down on hooliganism in the domestic leagues.
