GES revokes appointment of all staff who are not yet on payroll

GES Begins Public Sensitization On School Selection Into SHS Today

Teaching and non-teaching staff under the Ghana Education Service who have yet to be enrolled on the payroll have been impacted by the directive revoking their appointments effective immediately.

This latest development was outlined in a letter addressed to all Regional, District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Directors of Education, dated February 17, 2025, instructing them to revoke the appointments of such staff.

The statement signed by the Acting Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis further instructed the regional heads and directors to adhere strictly to the directive, adding that additional notices would be provided regarding the next steps.

The directive was in line with an earlier statement from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, which revoked all public service appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024.

A February 11 letter said “Consistent with government procurement in relation to near end of tenure appointments and recruitments, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December 2024, are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles.

“Accordingly, all Head of Government Institutions are hereby requested to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments and submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to this Office by 11th February 2025,” the letter said.

It will be recalled that the Office of the President directed all heads of government institutions to submit detailed records of staff members added to their payrolls since December 7, 2024.

This request was part of ongoing efforts by the John Dramani Mahama administration to strengthen transparency and integrity within the government’s payroll system.

Outlining the specific information required for each new employee, heads of institutions were instructed to provide the full names, designations or job titles, employee identification numbers (if applicable), date of appointments, and the date the employees were added to the payroll.

The directive emphasised the importance of this exercise in maintaining accountability in the management of public funds.
