GES halts salary of Bole SHS teacher accused of sexual misconduct

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has halted the payment of salary to a teacher at Bole Senior High School accused of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a student in the Science Laboratory, following his failure to report to duty after the incident.

According to the Service, the teacher has since absconded, prompting immediate administrative action, including the suspension of his salary and a formal report to the Ghana Police Service for his arrest and further investigation.

Speaking to the media on Monday, July 1, the Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, said the Service is working closely with security agencies to ensure the teacher is apprehended and made to face both criminal proceedings and internal disciplinary processes.

He explained that GES had already interdicted the teacher before taking the further step of stopping his salary, stressing that the move was necessary due to his disappearance from duty.

Professor Davis warned that the Service will apply the strictest sanctions available under its code of conduct, terming the alleged behaviour as unacceptable and harmful to the safety of students.

“We want to pursue legal action against the staff involved and also take him through our established processes under the code of conduct so that, at the end of the day, we apply the rules as stipulated in our code of conduct.

“We will apply the toughest sanctions to serve as a deterrent because we want our school environment to be safe. Teachers who expose children the way we saw in the video have no place in GES.”
