Four people, including three women and a teenage girl, have died at a shelter camp in Wenchi in the Bono Region, following the recent Gbenyiri conflict.
According to myjoyonline.com report on September 8, 2025, two of the deceased fell ill at the camp and were rushed to the Wenchi Hospital, where they died while receiving treatment.
The teenage girl reportedly died inside the camp, while a woman believed to be in her early 90s died two days after she was returned to her home community of Gbongbon in the Bole District.
Although the exact causes of the deaths have not been medically confirmed, sources in the camp suspect their demise may be linked to harsh weather conditions and inadequate health care.
“Many of the victims here are children and women. Some cannot cope with the challenges of environmental changes. Others sustained injuries while fleeing the conflict, and some had pre-existing health conditions that have worsened since they arrived,” the report indicated.
Aside from the Wenchi camp, some displaced persons from the conflict are reportedly being hosted in Sawla, Vonkore in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba area, Techiman, Sobiriso (Numbers One and Two), Sefi, and camps across the border in Ivory Coast.
This brings to 36, the number of deaths so far linked to the Gbenyiri conflict.
