The Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) on Sunday announced the ‘Read-a-Ghana-Book Month’ competition to create awareness on the need to read Ghanaian literary works.

It is one of the many projects the Association continues to pursue to promote reading among Ghanaians, especially children.

A statement issued and signed by Mr Ebo Assan Donkoh, the Office Administrator of GAW, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the month of March, every year, was dedicated to reading books by Ghanaian authors.

“It is also significant because it is Ghana’s independence month, therefore Ghana-National-Month. GAW believes that reading of the best of Ghanaian books confers on the reader the essentials of Ghanaian cultural values and liberal education,” it said.

This year’s activities include corporate and institutional book reading sessions in banks, insurance halls, and educational institutions and
a Book Stand at the PAWA House, Roman Ridge, Accra.

It also has the television and radio book reading shows, book readings in public places (markets, restaurants, lorry parks,) book donations, and meet-the-author-online sessions.

The statement said interested persons could access detailed information at www.gaw.org.gh
