Renowned Islamic scholar and Headteacher of T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School in Tema, Muhammad Hussain Acquah, who is also the National Preaching Secretary of Ansarullah Ghana, has cautioned individuals against the dangers of gambling addiction. Citing the psychological and spiritual consequences that can arise from this Satanic tool, Acquah emphasised that gambling is a significant sin in Islam.
In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie,” Acquah added that the tendency to engage in gambling activities stems from a deeper issue – the battle between the lower self (Nafs) and the higher self. “When one’s connection with Allah weakens, they start fearing people’s opinions more than Allah’s,” he said.
Acquah emphasised that the fear of judgment, shame, and pride can lead individuals to secrecy, causing them to present a facade of righteousness while hiding their true nature. “It’s a condition where one lives a life of false peace at home and one of secret indulgence outside,” he noted.
The scholar highlighted the importance of recognising the omnipresence of Allah (Ihsan) and the accountability that comes with it. “Allah sees you even in the darkness,” he reminded. Acquah urged individuals to prioritise their spiritual growth and self-reflection, recognising the dangers of gambling and the importance of living a truthful life. He warned that failure to do so could lead to spiritual weakness, divorce, and other negative consequences.
Prophet Isaac Asante, Head Pastor of Rhema Prayer Ministry, shared similar concerns about the spiritual implications of certain behaviours or relationships. “It’s true that our relationships and choices can impact our spiritual well-being and authority,” he said.
“Some behaviours or influences, like gambling addiction, can bring laziness or stagnation in life. Therefore, people must avoid addiction in gambling.”
