Galamsey Not an Excuse for Joblessness – Richard Anning Warns

“People You Perceive to Be Corrupt Must Be Sent to Court, Not Social Media” – Richard Anning to AG

Richard Anning, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema Central, has strongly condemned the destructive activities of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, accusing political leaders of playing blame games instead of finding lasting solutions.

Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B 104.5 FM, Mr. Anning criticized individuals who justify their involvement in illegal mining with the excuse of unemployment, saying such reasoning cannot be accepted when it comes to the destruction of Ghana’s water bodies and lands.

“You talk anyhow and say you don’t have a job so we should allow you to destroy our water bodies and land because of illegal mining, and we are making politics out of this,” he said.

He further accused political parties of turning the fight against galamsey into a partisan issue. According to him, while the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) points fingers at former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, little is being done to implement concrete measures to curb the menace.

Mr. Anning described as “totally madness” the alleged practice of some politicians giving out cars to chiefs in exchange for mining concessions, stressing that such acts only fuel the destruction of Ghana’s natural resources.
