Ghanaians have taken to various social media platforms to express concerns over the likely increment in electricity bill after Gabby Asare Okyere Darko, the man many believe sets agenda for the Akufo-Addo led government, took to social media to hint of same.
Gabby is seen by many as the man who always hint Ghanaians of any likely unfavourable policy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is about to be rolled out. He has on several occasions used his social media platforms to give hints of government’s impending policies and programmes.
A lot Ghanaians believe that he does this as survey to ascertain whether the said policy would be accepted or rejected. Some people have said that the decision by government to go ahead with the implementation of such policy is based on the reactions Ghanaians give to Gabby’s posts. Some of the policies Gabby has used his social media platforms to ascertain it acceptance or otherwise, are proposals on some taxes and the Agyapa deal.
His latest post on electricity tariff is seen by many as one of those posts which are aimed at ascertaining whether Ghanaians will accept it or not.
Gabby’s post seem to suggest that the Akufo-Addo led government has gone five years without increasing electricity tariff, but rather reduced them.
“Never had any government gone five years without increasing electricity tariff but also by reducing them” Gabby stated in his post; something people suspect he set for persuasion.
His post continued; “This government has, but at what cost. What we pay barely makes up 50% of the total cost of keeping our lights on”
Judging by what Gabby’s post, it obvious that he is simply telling Ghanaians that, what they currently pay for electricity they use is way low, and it is not even up to half of the total production cost.
It is further noticed that Gabby is claiming that government is subsidising heavenly on the energy Ghanaians use. He is quick to make the make the point that, government at least will cough up $1.2 bn to fill the gap and ended his post with a question on whether this should continue?
