Mr. Sampson Addae of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has confirmed that Ghanaians should expect an increase in petroleum prices in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Ohene Kinnah on Plan B FM’s Ebanosen, Mr. Addae explained that the anticipated rise is due to increasing prices on the international market and is expected to reflect at fuel pumps by March 2026.
According to him, although the Ghanaian cedi’s strength against the US dollar is a positive development, global price trends are likely to outweigh its impact.
He stated that the government has the option to reduce some of the taxes on petroleum products to cushion consumers, noting that a significant portion of fuel pricing goes to the state through taxes and levies.
Mr. Addae advised the President and his administration to absorb part of the price burden in order to ease the financial pressure on Ghanaians.
