Police in Kanungu district is hunting for a viscous man on the run,accused of butchering another man’s children in the neighborhood in retaliation for his promiscuous lover.
Edward Birungi, 40, and a resident of Kagarama village, Nyarutojo parish, Kambuga sub county split with his wife(names withheld) two weeks ago upon the realization that she was secretly bonking a neighbour identified as Frank Kato.
It is alleged that the couple had a bitter fall out that ended with the wife fleeing her matrimonial home after Birungi threatened to kill her for disrespecting their marriage by dishing out her bowel of soup to neighbours.
Locals claim Kato was reportedly not satisfied with the outcome of his marriage and decided to exert revenge on Kato who was happily moving on with his family.
Augustine Mutabazi, the Kagarama village LC1 chairman says on that fateful day, aThursday afternoon at around 04:00 PM Birungi waited for Kato to leave home for the garden before butchering two children to death.
Birungi reportedly grabbed a sharp panga and stormed Kato’s residence where the victims Tracy Nabasa, 8, and Ian Owembabazi, 3, were left alone. He slit their throats open and chopped their body parts into pieces before fleeing into hiding.

Elly Maate, Kigezi region Police Spokesperson says both police and locals are hunting for the suspect and he will be arrested once found.
He has however cautioned irate locals from participating in acts of mob justice once the suspect has been located.
He adds that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kambuga health center IV for postmortem. The case is registered at Kanungu police station under file number CRB 110/2022.
This week , Uganda Police Force Spokesperson, Fred Enanga clarified to the public that instances of adultery are not to be handled by the force because they are civil matters.
However, Enanga stated that an adultery can only turn criminal where there is a threat, elopment of one’s partner among others.
“However, there are other circumstances, were victimised married person, can report their matters to police. These include complaints of elopement, where one elopes with a married person and stays with them, trafficking in persons, where a person uses their power or positions of superiority and takes advantage of the victim’s vulnerability or disability, and under domestic violence, where the victim is tortured physically or emotionally, by the sexual behaviour of a married partner.” he said
