Freight forwarders and allied trade bodies in Ghana have today, Tuesday, 24 September 2024 staged a protest against what they describe as unfair charges imposed by shipping lines in the country.
Industry players have expressed growing frustration over the escalating fees, which they claim are exploiting the freight industry.
In an interview, Nana Asiamah Preprah I, Vice President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, emphasised the urgency of the situation.
“The rate at which the shipping lines are exploiting the industry is so frustrating,” he stated.
He explained that: “This protest is essential to draw government and public attention to the challenges confronting the freight industry in the country.”
The protesters aim to highlight the financial burdens that these excessive charges place on their operations, impacting not only their businesses but also the broader economy.
The freight forwarding sector is vital to Ghana’s trade, and stakeholders are calling for immediate action.
