The police have shot dead four suspected robbers who attacked passengers on the Bekwai-Cape Coast highway.
They allegedly blocked that stretch of the highway and robbed unsuspected passengers of their personal effects before the police arrived.
The police pursued them to their hideout at Essumeja in Bekwai and were overpowered in a gun battle.
The police are yet to officially comment on the incident.
Speaking to Asaase radio, the assemblyman for the area Kofi Frimpong confirmed the news.
“They have made announcement for the locals to be on the lookout for the suspect who escaped,” Frimpong said.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the suspect managed to escape. Police sources said a search is underway to hunt him.
