Former TDC staff sold public land to wife for GHS2k

The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused the Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who also previously served as a protocol officer to a former TDC Managing Director of illegally selling a public plot of land in Tema Community 5 to his wife for GHS 2,000.

According to TDC, the land in question was originally designated for a public toilet facility.

This revelation comes amid TDC’s ongoing efforts to recover illegally acquired lands as part of its broader mandate to support infrastructure and housing development in the country.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Thursday, September 4, the Managing Director of TDC, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, disclosed that the contract of the said officer was terminated following an internal investigation.

He further explained that the land, located behind Tema Secondary School, has since been retrieved for state development purposes.

“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to the wife at the cost of GHS2000. The documents are with me, I can make it available. When I went into the matter I said no way I engaged the woman and I terminated the contract,” he stated.

Adding “…I am not grabbing any land, I am just doing the right thing for the Ghanaian. I terminated that contract and now the place is for the state to be used as a public toilet.”

Meanwhile, on the issue of the Peaceful Settlers’ Association’s allegations against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly—for attempting to seize lands they claim to legally own despite a court injunction, Mr. Nunekpeku stated that TDC is engaging all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful resolution
