The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana has dismissed claims that it has approved an arrangement for officials of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel abroad to provide licensing services to Ghanaians in the diaspora.
In a press release issued in Accra on February 26, 2026, the Ministry described as false a viral news headline suggesting it had authorised DVLA staff to operate in countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany to register and renew Ghanaian driving licences.
The Ministry stated categorically that it has neither issued directives to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an initiative.
According to the statement, the Ministry is unaware of any new government policy supporting the purported arrangement and has no record indicating the introduction of such a directive.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the Ministry stressed, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to its attention, and no financial commitment to support what it described as the alleged initiative.
The Ministry further assured the public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in the delivery of public services, urging citizens to disregard the circulating claims.
The clarification comes amid growing public discussion over reports that DVLA services were set to be extended to selected countries to cater to Ghanaians living abroad.
