The senior principal investigator and leader of public education for the Commission of Human Rights in Tema Mr. John Ato Brebo (Uncle Ato) has hinted that forced labor occurs when individuals are compelled against their will to provide work or service through the use of force, fraud, or coercion which is steadily increasing Ghana and Forced labor also happens in societies where the rule of law is weak, or where corruption is common. It can also be prevalent in any economy that is dependent on cheap labor.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s lifestyle, family and relationship show NYANSAPO FIE hosted by Rev. Dr. Michael Asenso, Uncle Ato expressed concerns that, there are young ladies brought in from neighboring countries like Nigeria, Togoa and the like with the promise by their agents to give the good jobs but are now forced into prostitution without know the amount of money they make each day.
He said such people are at much higher risk of forced labor exploitation than other workers. They are often targeted as they may not speak the language, they may have smaller networks to call upon, limited rights, and be dependent on their employers.
He narrated that, some Ghanaians some time ago wanted to seek greener pastures in Suadi Arabia and later turned to regret because their Agents promised to take them to Berlin to work but later sent them to Bahrain which resulted in treachery, abuse and rape which got some ladies impregnated.
