A fire outbreak at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale has damaged transformers, insulators, and other essential equipment.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Fire tenders were deployed from both the metropolitan station and the hospital.
In a media interview, the Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Baba Hudu, indicated, “We immediately dispatched two fire tenders, but due to the intensity of the fire, they were insufficient to extinguish it fully. As a result, we had to request an additional water supply from the water company,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Corporate Communications Director of NEDCo, Maxwell Kotoka, has assured the public that the outbreak will not affect power distribution.
“The warehouse itself has lost power supply, but we are working to resolve the situation. At this point, no external institutions have been affected,” he added.
