A fire incident has severely damaged a room at the Jean Aka Nelson Hostel on the University of Ghana campus, according to multiple reports.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, May 29, 2025, left the room extensively charred, with significant damage to furniture and personal belongings.

Videos shared on social media show the aftermath of the fire, with soot and debris covering the floor and walls.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a student leaving an iron plugged in while attending lectures, according to multiple reports.

Jean Aka Nelson Hostel is one of the modern residences on the campus of the university.

Meanwhile, authorities at the university have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
