FIFA U20WWC: Black Princesses out despite New Zealand win

FIFA U20WWC: Black Princesses out despite New Zealand win
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Black Princesses’ run at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup has come to an end despite their victory over New Zealand in the final group game.

Ghana was looking to pick up the last slot available for the four best third-placed teams with a win against New Zealand.

The West African country’s hopes of sealing qualification were shattered by the South American side, Argentina who defeated Costa Rica by a solitary goal.

The side lost their opening two games in the competition to Austria and Japan and needed to win their final berth to save face following their subpar performance in the tournament.

Salamatu Abdulai scored a brace, Tracy Twum with the third goal with Manaia Elliot’s goal sandwiched in between the goals for the New Zealanders.

The Black Princesses have failed to qualify for the knock stages at their seventh attempt in the global women’s youth competition.
